Aphelion is the point in a celestial body’s orbit (planet or comet) where it is farthest from the Sun.
For Earth, this happens every year in early July, when our planet is about 152 million kilometers (94.5 million miles) away from the Sun.
Earth is about 5 million kilometers (3 million miles) farther from the Sun at aphelion than at its closest point (perihelion), which occurs in early January.
On July 6, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. UTC (8:30 p.m. Kyiv time), Earth will attain its aphelion, the point in its orbit farthest from the Sun.at 5
