2 Supermoons, Red Moon, Blue Moon, Lammas & Eris in August

Supermoons

The first of two full moons in August will reach its peak on Tuesday, August 1. And as an added bonus, both of the full moons this month are also supermoons. There are four supermoons in 2023. The Aug. 30 moon will also be a blue moon, since it’s the second full moon of the month.

The August 1 sturgeon moon will reach peak illumination at 2:32 p.m. ET Tuesday, when it’s below the horizon here in the U.S. However, it will still appear plenty full when it rises above the horizon in the southeast sky that evening after sunset.

It’s the summer of supermoons in 2023.

The blue moon will be back in 2023 after a hiatus in 2022. That will go along with four consecutive supermoons, a lunar eclipse and a “super blue moon.”

During a supermoon, the moon is at its closest distance to the earth.

Red Moon

RED MOON….. the moon rises red this time of year due to the summertime haze.

The haze created by summer heat and dry conditions can lead to the illusion of a red hue to the full Moon in August, particularly when the Moon is seen in the early evening. “Red Moon” is a name used by many different cultures in many areas. Another late summer weather phenomenon is frequent lightning, and the name “Lightning Moon” for August’s full Moon.

Aquarius Full Moon too.

Aquarius is a radical zodiac sign, an AirSign which is always pushing the boundaries and invariably challenging the status quo. An Aquarius Full Moon is an astrological opportunity to reflect on how you’ve made a difference in the world. Whatever work you’ve done to try to further equality, fairness, justiceor respect for the environment, however small, has been gratefully received by the cosmos and during the Full Moon period you should notice that a slight shift has occurred – thanks to your actions.

Lammas

Kindle a Lammas fire of herbs and wood to commemorate the Sun’s passing.  Say goodbye to the Sun by saying: “We thank You God of Sun and Light, for warming us from dawn ’til night.  For fertilizing all on Earth, for bringing us Your cheer and mirth.  For laughter, joy, and shining ray, for guiding us along our way.  And as You go, we hold You dear, until the winter brings You near.  And with the Yule You’re born anew.  Goodbye, dear Sun, we shall miss You.” Thank the Mother for Her bountiful gifts by blessing the onions, garlic, and grain stables in your kitchen (flour, cornmeal, oatmeal, and so on).  Line them up on the altar or counter, place your hands over them, and say: “We thank You, Mother, for these gifts, for meal and bulbs and that which sifts.  Please bless these items with Your grace, and hold them dear within their space.  So as we eat, Your blessings flow, within, without – from head to toe.”

Bake magickal bread in celebration of the harvest.

Blue Moon

August 30 – The Blue Supermoon

The saying “once in a blue moon” means a rare occurrence in folklore.

The term indicates two full moons within a month.

The term Blue Moon is believed to have originated in 1883 after the eruption of Krakatoa. The volcano put so much dust in the atmosphere that the Moon actually looked blue in color.

A blue moon occurs once every 2.5 years, on average.

On Aug. 30-31, a blue full moon will appear and reach its peak illumination at 9:36 p.m. EDT.

Eris

Eris – The Goddess of Discord and Strife.

Eris is a slow moving dwarf planet that was discovered in 2005. It is found far beyond the planet of Neptune.

It stands for discontent, aggression, war, anger and assertiveness. It takes around 560 years to go once around the zodiac sky. Hence its position in the houses and the aspect it makes are very important. Eros is the counterpart of Eris. Eris in mythology is said to constitute the divine feminine energy of rightful anger.

Eris – July – October !

Eris squared Pluto within 4 degrees orb, and Pluto squared the Nodes of Fate EXACTLY and Eris went into retrograde around the 21 July 2023.

Eris will conjunct the North Node in Aries mid August – December.

Towards the end of August 2023, the North Node of Fate starts to conjuncts Kuiper belt object Eris in Aries, to be within 1 degree orb by the start of September.

In the tarot, it’s the journey that made the Empress who she is, having overcome psychological warfare and sabotage of all kind.

Eris is chaos, hubris, envy, the tall poppy syndrome, character assassination, the evil stepmother dynamic, fall from grace, going down rabbit holes, bullying, and other stark polarities; it’s the narcissist creeping up in stealth on the empath, and the empath getting discernment, and clarity to dodge that bullet!
